The off peak traveling during the school year may be fun for the kids, but it also can be more dangerous on the roads. School zone speed limits and busses with flashing lights are the same on vacation as they are at home. However some states have passed some new traffic laws that could impact you’re driving. Many states are taking action against texting and driving. In Texas and several other states it is prohibited to text in a school zone as well as while driving. Some states and cities have gone as far as banning any mobile devices while driving in a school zone and even school property.

Our mobile devices are not the only distractions. The GPS has also become another electronic attention getter. We suggest before heading out on your destination, take a moment to program the information in. Remember the phrase “set it and forget it”.

When you took drivers education, they taught you to stop at a red light. Well that lesson still applies today. If not the eye on the pole will get you. Red light cameras have become the latest trend in many states to aid in enforcing the laws and creating revenue. Keep in mind while renting a car, running these lights and tolls can cost you. Rental agreements show who had the car when the violation happened. To avoid any additional fees, follow the rules of the road.
