Living the Foodie Dream at Walt Disney World, FL

Posted by E-Z RAC Team on Oct 22, 2014 4:11:00 PM

If you've found yourself perusing this blog article, you are among the golden citizens who share an undeniable love for delicious food and the magic of Disney. There's nothing quite like enjoying a Mickey-shaped icecream sandwich on a hot Florida day while walking down Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom, but there is so much more food where that came from hidden behind the gates of Disney's various Orlando theme parks. Whether you're a frequenter or a first-time Mouseketeer, make it a point to stop and grab a bite at these establishments scattered throughout Disney. If you've got a little foodie inside you like us, these enchanting flavors may prove even more memorable than meeting the Mouse for the first time.

Frozen Beer (Epcot)

We'll start off with a light, refreshing beverage. If you're a fan of draft beer, check out the frozen kind at Epcot's Japan Pavilion. "Wait, beer...that's FROZEN?" Yep. Frozen beer. While the beverage itself is mostly liquid, the "foam" on top is a slushie texture, keeping your draft nice and cold. It's quite an experience, and we definitely recommend it.

Where can you find this? Try the Kabuki Cafe, Tokyo Dining, and the Garden House, all located at the Japan Pavilion in Epcot's World Showcase.

Kringla Bakeri og Kafe (Epcot)

What's that? Oh just a delicious bakery over at the Norway Pavilion in Epcot. Even though Disney fans around the world are devestated over the loss of our beloved Maelstrom ride, we luckily still have the aromatic, pastry-filled wonder that floats through the streets of Norway, beckoning you through the shop's doors. Kringla Bakeri has some of the most decadent cinnamon buns around, but if you're more into the traditional Norwegian treats, try some School Bread, the Cloudberry Horn, or Lefse, a traditional potato bread lathered in butter and cinnamon sugar.

Yorkshire County Fish Shop (Epcot)

Visiting from England and desire a little piece of home? Or maybe you just love the English cuisine and atmosphere. Well, you'll find it at the England Pavillion in Epcot. Over at Yorkshire County Fish Shop, they've got some of the best fish and chips you'll find, at least in Orlando. They're so flaky, buttery, and delectable, you'll find yourself dancing around with Mary Poppins before you can catch yourself. Oh and when you're done, wash that fishy goodness down with some hot tea or a crisp lager.

Kusafiri Bakery (Animal Kingdom)

This little bakery is a walk-up kiosk nestled right near Kilimanjaro Safaris in Animal Kingdom. The menu consists of sweet treats with a little animal flair. After you've gotten your fill of lions, tigers, and gorillas on your safari, stop by for an adorable (and delicious!) White Chocolate Elephant Cupcake and an espresso. The cupcake itself is chocolate covered in a buttercream, german chocolate frosting, and toasted coconut flakes. *Drool* You'll be torn between devouring this cupcake in one bite and staring forever into its delicious, chocolatey eyes.

Yak & Yeti (Animal Kingdom)

Now, if you want a little more sustenance besides delicious sweets, you've got to try Yak & Yeti -- no seriously. This place is amazing. It's located in a bright blue building over by Everest. It's hard to choose just one delicious thing to highlight on this menu, so here's a list of "oh my god" things to try immediately:

  • Crispy Green Beans
  • Dim Sum for Two
  • Honey Chicken
  • Lettuce Cups
  • Mandarin Chicken Salad
  • Mango Pie
  • Cream Cheese Wontons

And ohhhhh so much more. Also, did I mention that they have a shaved ice martini? It's like an adult slushie, seriously. If you're looking for table service and delicious Asian fusion cuisine, don't pass up Yak & Yeti!

Sci Fi Dine-In Theater (Hollywood Studios)

All right. This place is on the list specifically for the atmosphere. The food is pretty par for the course when it comes to theme parks, but it's still delightful, especially combined with the entire experience. Located in Hollywood Studios near Star Tours and Muppet Vision 3D, if you choose to dine at Sci Fi, you'll be sitting in a giant dark room, inside of a car, watching classic flicks on a giant screen TV. The food options are your classic American cuisines (hamburgers, hotdogs, french fries, etc...), but this is one of our favorite restaurants to eat at when visitng Disney for the day!

The Grey Stuff (Magic Kingdom)

Everybody loves Beauty & the Beast, and everyone DEFINITELY loves the Be Our Guest Restaurant in Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom. Have you ever wanted to dine in a grand ballroom with Lumiere's dancing china? Now you can. And when you're there, don't forget to try the grey stuff -- it's truly delicious. But what exactly is it? No fear, it's just cookies and cream panna cotta mousse on top of (and inside!) a chocolate cupcake!

Aloha Isle Refreshments (Magic Kingdom)

One of our absolute favorite treats at Magic Kingdom has got to be, hands down, the Dole Whips at the Aloha Isle Refreshments Stand in Magic Kingdom's Adventureland. These cold, creamy delights are perfect after a long day perusing the parks. What's a Dole Whip? Pineapple soft serve ice cream. And you can get it in a float, complete with sweet, tangy pineapple juice! They also have vanilla, vanilla swirl, and orange flavors. The next time you're at Magic Kingdom, a Dole Whip is a MUST!

The Kitchen Sink (Beaches and Cream)

Last but not least -- the Kitchen Sink at Beaches and Cream. This restaurant isn't actually inside the parks, so you can try this delightful masterpiece even if you don't have a ticket in. Just make your way to Disney's Yacht Club Resort and grab a seat! Beaches and Cream features mostly American cuisines such as hamburgers, sandwiches, etc... but the real reason to go is for the dessert. The Kitchen Sink is a huge monstrosity of ice cream, brownies, whipped cream, sprinkles, cherries, oreos, nuts, hot fudge, butterscotch topping, peanut butter, bananas, cupcakes, and basically anything else you could ever imaging putting on a dessert. And it's all served to you in a sink!
