San Jose Costa Rica Policies and Procedures


Pickup/Shuttle Information
  • • Pickup with our affiliate, Poas Rent A Car
  • • Shuttle service goes ever 15 minutes to the airport arrivals gate.
  • • For reservations with full flight information, a representative will be waiting with a sign.

CANCELLATIONS
Cancellations and No Show   
  • Reservations are considered a no-show and canceled three hours after the stated pickup date and time.
  • Please cancel all reservations 72 hours ahead of time during low season (April 15th through December 14th) and at least one week during high season (December 15th through April 14th).


EQUIPMENT
Baby Seat   
  • Baby seats are available upon request for $3 per day on a first come first serve basis.

Mobile Phones   
  • Mobile phones are available upon request for $4 per day on a first come first serve basis.


GAS
Fuel Options   
  • The rental car is delivered with a full tank of gas. It must be returned full as well. If is not returned full, the difference would be charged according to the fuel price at the current date.


GEOGRAPHIC
Mileage Cap   
  • Unlimited mileage for all rentals as long as the vehicle stays in Costa Rica.


INSURANCE
CDW   
  • CDW is available for purchase for all rentals for $3.00 per day
  • To decline CDW, the renter must utilize a US or Canadian credit card that covers the insurance.

Declining Coverage   
  • In Costa Rica, the CDW & TPL insurances are not declinable because they are basic and mandatory none of then cover in case of accidents caused by negligence. TPL ranges from $18 to $25 per day.

SLI   
  • SLI / PAI is available for purchase for all rentals for $3.00 per day
  • To decline SLI (which is required by the country), the renter must utilize a US or Canadian credit card that covers the insurance.


LOCAL RENTERS
Local Renters   
  • Please check with the rental agents for local renter policy.


ONE WAY
Drop Charge   
  • One way rentals are permitted to the following locations:
    • Puerto Viejo, South Caribbean Coast for $50
    • Tortuguero National Park for $20
    • Arenal Volcano National Park for $50

RESERVATIONS
Confirmation Number   
  • Your confirmation number is the number that you are given once your reservation has been confirmed. This number can be used to gain access to your reservation information, including your rates, or your rental information once you have picked up the vehicle.

Guarantee   
  • Your reservation guarantees a car at the rate, date and time (pickup and dropoff) that you reserved it for. It does not guarantee a specific make and model of a vehicle, nor can it guarantee a reservation for another date or date range.


RULES
Deposit   
  • All transactions have to be done with credit card.
  • The deposit of guarantee and the rental amount are frozen during the time of the contract; at the return of the car without damages caused by negligence, the deposit is released and the amount for rent is charged.
  • Deposit of Guarantee: The amount varies according to type of car it goes from $750 to $1500, this serves as cover in case of an accident is caused by negligence.

Modifications   
  • We hold the ability to change these posted policies and procedures at any time.

Rental Requirements   
  • To be senior than 22
  • To have a valid passport
  • To have a valid driver’s license
  • The main driver and the credit card owner have to be the same person.


TAXES/FEES
Disclaimer   
  • Only those taxes and fees which appear in the estimated total of the reservation and/or the rental agreement are applicable for a specific location. The base rate of the rental is guaranteed for the dates and times of the reservation, but taxes and fees may be changed by a governing authority prior to arrival at the rental counter. Any changes to the taxes and/or fees will be shown on the rental agreement at the opening of the rental agreement. Adding additional optional charges such as upgrades, GPS rentals, etc. at the rental counter may effect the amounts of the applicable taxes and fees.

Sales Tax   
  • This is the sales tax for the state, county and city fees.

VLRF   
  • Vehicle License Recoupment Fee - This is a fee for the recoupment of vehicle licensing fees that we pay.
